RESOLUTION

Interior design
Environmental design

Resolution is dedicated to survivors of sexual violence. Western culture is obsessed with the idea of resolution, hellbent on finding the silver lining in every hardship. But as much as we try, the trauma that most shatters us may never yield a reason or meaning. Trauma is often a loop that never quite closes, and this chair's form is a physical acknowledgment that in the face of unthinkable, suffocating trauma, the freedom to find peace and autonomy is still within grasp.

The chair is supported by four bars, symbolizing the 1 in 4 women who will experience sexual violence in her lifetime, who become a system of support for one another in spite of the confinement they share. The cutout between the cushions reveals only two of these bars when viewed from the front, honoring both the survivors who have come forward and those who choose not to.

Resolution is made of Brazilian walnut, a wood as fireproof as steel. Over time, the wood will darken, taking on a new color with age as each survivor enters a new phase of healing with time.
